The European Road Safety Charter (ERSC) awards prestigious recognition for best practices in road safety each month, highlighting exceptionally successful initiatives across Europe. The Croatian Automobile Club (HAK) has been acknowledged and awarded for December 2024 for its preventive-educational programme KLIK – seat belt, the habit of responsible behaviour.
This programme has been running since 2017 with the aim to raise awareness about the importance of seat belt use among young drivers, particularly focusing on senior high school students. Interactive lessons and practical demonstrations are given to young students, including rollover and collision simulators. This approach encourages young road users to take responsibility for their own safety and that of others. The KLIK program is implemented in high schools across the country, engaging around 7,000 students each school year. Last year, the programme was introduced in English to further expand its reach and impact.
As a key player in road safety in Croatia, HAK participates in the implementation of the National Road Safety Plan. Simultaneously under the programme KLIK, HAK organizes a competition titled 10 Golden Rules aimed at encouraging road users under 24 to engage in responsible behaviour through creativity and filmmaking on the topic of road safety. Winning entries are broadcasted daily on the Croatian Radio and Television as part of HAK’s traffic information programme.
As a member of the ERSC and a national coordinator of the Charter, HAK plays a central role in implementing European road safety guidelines at the national level. Its preventive-educational programmes embrace all age groups, from preschool children to the elderly aged over 65, with a singular goal: enhancing road safety.
