Club News: ACM teaches pregnant women about child safety in cars

    19 October 2017

The Automobile Club of Moldova (ACM), in partnership with the National Patrolling Inspectorate, carried out a series of training sessions with expectant mothers in maternity hospitals around the country as part of the Keep your Kids Safe in Cars! project. The training aimed to advise future mothers on how to travel safely with their children and prevent road traffic collisions involving minors. The soon-to-be mothers were given information about current legislation related to the use of special child restraint systems (CRS) and were shown a video demonstrating the dangers of transporting children in the wrong way.

The expectant mothers were actively engaged in the discussions, asking key questions about CRS, including:

    • Where is the safest place in the car?
    • How to install CRS?
    • What criteria should parents look out for when choosing child restraint systems?
    • What are the legal penalties for violating the law on CRS?

Participants agreed that such training sessions are extremely useful, as well as being especially necessary in Moldova where hundreds of children are injured and dozens killed in road traffic crashes every year.

ACM launched Keep your Kids Safe in Cars! in May 2017, with the aim to promote the use of child car restraint systems and children’s safety in transportation across Moldova and to improve the culture and responsibility of parent-drivers for their child-passengers. The campaign is implemented by ACM in partnership with the FIA, FIA Foundation, EASST, Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, MIA, National Patrolling Inspectorate, Ministry of Education, REPEMOL, “Oratorul” Theater, General Department of Public Transport Chisinau and a number of driving schools.
