Car drivers spend about 25-30% of total driving time on distracting activities.
The task of driving demands continuous attention to traffic circumstances and vehicle control. Being distracted while on the road decreases the driving performance, putting at risk the safety of the driver and other road users.
With the #2seconds campaign, FIA Region I and our national member Clubs are raising awareness on distraction, stressing that even very short lapses of attention can have dramatic and even fatal consequences. Even if your eyes are off the road for only two seconds, a vehicle moving at 50km/h travels more than 27 meters. At the same time, on average a person takes s 1,8 seconds to react to an event. This means that nearly four seconds can pass before the distracted driver can react to an unexpected event.
The FIA Region I road safety campaign is supported by the FIA Road Safety Grant Programme.
