On 19 November, FIA Region I will host an event Driving Data Rights: Enhancing privacy and control in connected cars in collaboration with Privacy4Cars.
Vehicles increasingly collect and share granular data about drivers, passengers, and their surroundings. How is data consent being managed? Who is responsible for protecting and controlling the vast amounts of data generated by cars?
While manufacturers play a critical role, the entire automotive data ecosystem is involved and includes thousands of companies: dealerships, vehicle insurers and service providers (just to name a few). All of whom need to balance the desire to use data for profit and the data rights of individuals under various laws, chiefly among them GDPR.
We will highlight the current landscape of data privacy in connected vehicles, focusing on the gaps between what the law says and what the current industry practices are, and what actions are required of data controllers to grant individuals greater transparency, security, and access to their vehicle data.
The event gathers EU policymakers, automotive industry stakeholders and representatives from civil society to shape future regulatory frameworks and foster meaningful dialogue between regulators and industry players.
Participation is based on personal invitation only.
