The African Best Young Driver Contest 2026 will take place in Daar Es Salaam, Tanzania, from 13 to 15 November kindly hosted by AA Tanzania.

Building on the successful concept and framework of the European Best Young Driver Contest, which was first introduced nationally by AMZS (Slovenia) in 2017, the African Best Young Driver Contest is launching its second edition. This exciting new initiative celebrates young drivers across Africa, promoting road safety and demonstrating that young drivers can be responsible, skilled, and inspiring role models for their peers and the wider community.

The contest is open to young drivers aged 18 to 26 who hold a valid category B driving license. It challenges participants on the skills that matter most for safe and responsible driving—not only behind the wheel but also in real-life situations. Competitors will put their abilities to the test in first aid, knowledge of traffic rules, road safety practices, and vehicle handling, all in a fun and engaging format.

Tanzania is a jewel of East Africa, celebrated for its majestic landscapes, remarkable biodiversity, and rich cultural heritage. Home to iconic natural wonders such as Mount Kilimanjaro, the Serengeti plains, and the tropical spice island of Zanzibar, Tanzania offers unforgettable experiences for adventurers and travellers alike. Its warm and welcoming people, diverse traditions, and delicious cuisine make it a compelling destination on and off the beaten path.

Tanzania’s sporting spirit is equally impressive. With a growing motorsport presence and a strong community of enthusiasts, the country continues to build its reputation as an emerging hub for automotive competition and youth engagement. The blend of resilience, adventure, and natural beauty defines Tanzania — from rugged terrain to vibrant urban centres — making it an inspiring backdrop for motorsport and cultural exchange.
Participants arriving by plane should plan to land at Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) in Dar es Salaam.
Visa Requirements: Most visitors require a visa for Tanzania, which can be obtained as an eVisa online via the official Government portal (https://visa.immigration.go.tz/) or, in many cases, on arrival at major airports such as Kilimanjaro or Dar es Salaam. Passports must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry, and visitors should check the specific requirements based on their nationality well in advance.
Health: A Yellow Fever vaccination certificate may be required for travellers arriving from or transiting through regions with risk of yellow fever transmission. Consult public health advice for other recommended vaccines and anti‑malarial precautions prior to travel.
The Tanzanian Shilling (TZS) is the official currency of Tanzania. Credit and debit cards are accepted at many hotels and larger establishments, but cash is recommended for markets and smaller vendors.
ATMs are widely available in cities like Arusha and Dar es Salaam, and foreign currencies such as USD and EUR can be exchanged at banks or licensed bureaux de change.
Approximate rate: 1 USD ≈ 2,576 TZS (subject to fluctuation).
In November, Tanzania experiences the short rainy season, with warm days and cooler nights. Rain showers are generally brief and intermittent, and outdoor activities remain feasible.
Daytime temperatures: ~27–28 °C (80–82 °F)
Night-time temperatures: ~15–17 °C (59–63 °F)
Sunlight: Around 12 hours per day
Packing tips: Bring light clothing for the day, a light waterproof layer for rain, a sweater/jacket for cooler evenings, sunscreen, and a hat for sun protection.
