Poland, located in Central Europe, is a country rich in history, cultural heritage, and diverse landscapes. Positioned at the crossroads of Western and Eastern Europe, Poland has been shaped by centuries of changing borders and influences, resulting in a strong national identity and vibrant traditions. With an area of approximately 312,000 km² and a population of around 38 million, it is one of the largest countries in the European Union. The official language is Polish, and the Latin alphabet is used.
Poland has a predominantly continental climate, with warm summers and cold winters, often accompanied by snowfall. The country offers a wide range of natural attractions, from the sandy beaches of the Baltic Sea to the Masurian Lakes and the Carpathian and Tatra Mountains. Nature lovers can enjoy hiking, cycling, kayaking, and winter sports throughout the year.
Polish culture is deeply rooted in music, literature, and cuisine. Traditional dishes such as pierogi, bigos, and żurek are widely enjoyed, often accompanied by local desserts and strong coffee. Poland is also known for its hospitality and lively cities that blend historical charm with modern life.
Poznań, one of the oldest and most important cities in Poland, is located in the western part of the country on the Warta River. With a population of around 540,000, it is a major academic, cultural, and business centre. Poznań is especially known as the birthplace of the Polish state, making it a key destination for those interested in history.
The heart of the city is the Old Market Square (Stary Rynek), famous for its colourful Renaissance townhouses and the historic Town Hall, where the iconic mechanical goats appear daily at noon. The city offers a mix of historical landmarks, green parks, and a lively atmosphere shaped by its large student population.
Poznań is home to numerous museums, galleries, and cultural institutions, as well as modern cafés, restaurants, and event spaces. Its balance of tradition and innovation gives the city a welcoming yet dynamic character that leaves a strong impression on visitors.
Participants arriving by plane should land at Poznań–Ławica Henryk Wieniawski Airport (POZ). The transfer to the city centre or hotel takes approximately 15–25 minutes, depending on traffic.
Participants arriving by car, van, or bus can go directly to their hotel. Parking information will be provided on arrival.
A valid passport or national ID card is required to enter Poland. As a member of the Schengen Area, citizens of the EU, UK, USA, and many other countries may enter visa-free for short stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period.
The official currency is the Polish Złoty (PLN). Currency exchange offices and ATMs are widely available throughout Poznań. Credit and debit cards are commonly accepted in hotels, restaurants, and shops, though it is useful to carry some cash for small purchases.
October in Poznań is generally cool and can be rainy at times. Autumn colours are prominent, and temperatures are comfortable for walking and sightseeing.
Temperatures usually range from 6°C to 15°C, so we recommend bringing warm layers, a jacket, and an umbrella.
