Club news: RACC hosts 15th EuroRAP assembly

Publication date: 26 July 2017

At the 15th EuroRAP assembly, new road assessment protocols to extend analysis of infrastructure and accident risk measurement beyond roads for vehicles were discussed. These protocols are to be applied in the auditing of safe routes to school and bicycle lanes.

They also studied the evolution of road safety and shared experiences of public-private collaboration on accident prevention, in order to move towards the vision ‘zero road victims’.

As RACC President Josep Mateu recalled in his address, that RACC has pioneered the introduction of EuroRAP methodology in Spain, analysing 6,300 km of Catalan roads a year and over 24,000 km of roads in Spain, and undertaking safety audits on road networks in 12 countries in Europe, Asia and Latin America.

The RACC headquarters in Barcelona hosted the assembly, which took place on 8 and 9 June and was attended by European road safety leaders representing automobile Clubs, businesses and universities. Also attending were representatives of agencies such as the Catalan Traffic Service, the Government of Catalonia's Directorate-General for Infrastructure, whose director, Xavier Flores, recently joined the EuroRAP Board, and the Spanish Government's Directorate-General for Traffic.
