Club news: IAM RoadSmart works to push the anti-drink drive message this festive season

Publication date: 22 December 2016

Around 6,500 people die each year, across Europe, due to drink driving.

Now, with New Year’s festivities in full swing, opportunities to drink are becoming ever more frequent and work and family Christmas parties are popping up recurrently. With this in mind, road safety charity, IAM RoadSmart have launched a timely anti-drink drive campaign calling for people to make it #NoneForTheRoad (drink no alcohol at all if driving) or plan ahead and designate drivers within their social groups to be their #HeroOfTheRoad.

Get online and spread the word. You can help prevent accidents this Christmas. It’s easy. Share the charity’s #NoneForTheRoad and #HeroOfTheRoad posts, which you can find on the IAM RoadSmart facebook and twitter pages.

Remember, what may seem obvious to you may not be as evident to someone else, particularly at a certain point in the night. If we can get the message to resonate with just one person as they scroll through their phones before getting ready for an evening out – then that would be an achievement.

IAM RoadSmart is also holding a #HeroOfTheRoad competition on twitter (UK only). The winner will receive a voucher for afternoon tea for two at The Savoy. Travel cost is covered for those who are not local. To enter, tweet the @IAMRoadSmart account with a picture of your designated driver before/after your journey using the hashtag #HeroOfTheRoad. (Closing date: Jan 8 2017).
