High-level delegates participate in ECOWILL ecodriving demonstrations at International Transport Forum

Publication date: 04 May 2012

Ecodriving, or driving in an ecological way, could reduce road transport CO2 emissions by 10 per cent. This is why FIA Region I is a partner of the EU ECOWILL (Ecodriving Wide-spread Implementation for Learners and Licensed Drivers) project on ecodriving.

At the International Transport Forum (ITF) in Leipzig on 2-4 May 2012, the FIA President Jean Todt took part in one of the ecodriving training courses organised by the ECOWILL project at the event and offered to the ITF delegates. The demonstrations were designed to give policymakers and automotive experts the opportunity to test-drive the benefits of ecodriving for themselves.

Ecodriving helps reduce CO2 emissions by enabling the driver to get the maximum performance of a car whilst using a minimal amount of fuel.  With studies showing that ecodriving consumers can save up to 10 per cent on consumption, the FIA supports ecodriving activities as part of an integrated approach to the reduction of CO2 from cars.

Ecodrivers not only save fuel and therefore money, but they also driver in a more ecologically sustainable and safe manner. To further encourage ecodriving, the FIA and the ECOWILL project are calling for high-quality ecodriving training and standards across Europe.
