FIA conference in Brussels: Driving change, connecting mobility

Publication date: 20 October 2015

On 20 October, FIA Region I hosted over 80 high level policymakers and leaders in the mobility community to engage with future mobility trends at the conference Driving change, connecting mobility.

FIA Region I Director General, Jacob Bangsgaard, said: “It is clear that disruptive changes in mobility will mean everything from new models of ownership, to cleaner cars, to bundled mobility services. For the FIA, it is important that consumers remain at the centre of the discussion as these new forms of transportation become a reality. Our aim is to start the momentum today to create the safe, sustainable, accessible and affordable mobility sector of the future.”

The keynote speaker Didier Tshidimba, Managing Partner, Roland Berger looked to the future and how mobility will change from 2015 to 2030. On the demand-side, changing demographics and consumer preferences call for new mobility solutions. On the supply-side, he expects significant innovations in vehicle technology to result in new methods of transportation.

Within the panel debates, a wide range of subjects, including: mobility as a service; vehicle ownership; new models for insurance; and data protection, among many others were touched upon in an attempt to holistically approach the coming changes in mobility. Important takeaways from the event were the growing need in the market to combine mobility services and the concerns over driver awareness of and consent to the data being transferred to vehicle manufacturers via the vehicle.

Following this conference, FIA Region I and its member Clubs will continue to advocate for consumers as new transport services and technologies are deployed in Europe.
