Club news: ÖAMTC presents the fourth edition of the Marcus auto awards in Linz

Publication date: 06 April 2016

The fourth edition of the ÖAMTC’s Marcus auto awards took place in Linz. As part of the ceremony, 14 car models were awarded for their outstanding performance in the areas of economic efficiency and safety. In the economic efficiency category, the judges prioritised low monthly running costs across the different vehicle categories, while in terms of safety the emphasis was on the minimum standard safety features such as Electronic Stability Control (ESC), seatbelt warning systems, airbags and pedestrian detection systems. A total of 47 new vehicle models, which were launched in 2015, were competing in the two major categories. Additionally, 21 models were in the running for the “Trendsetter” award given to vehicles featuring particularly pioneering technologies.

Winners for economic efficiency included: the Opel Karl 1.0 Ecotec; the Skoda Superb 1.6 TDI Active; and the Fiat 500X 1.3 Multi-Jet II 95 City Look Pop. Safety efficiency winners included: the Audi TT Roadster; the Audi A4; and the BMW 7 Series. The jury of experts commended the Volvo XC90 T8 as the 2015 ‘trendsetter’ on the strength of its driver assistance systems.

During the event, the Club also presented the “Mobility and Breakdown Assistance 2050” project which was prepared by students at Linz’s University of Art and Design. The students were invited to analyse the changing trends in the current mobility environment and to propose their vision for the future of the Club’s breakdown assistance services and a strategy for their optimisation.
