Club news: MEMSI provides road safety course for students

Publication date: 14 October 2015

The Automobile and Touring Club of Israël (MEMSI) has successfully carried out a short course on road safety for junior high school students. During the course, students were taught what to watch out for on the street through the opportunity to experience the streets from a driver’s point of view.

The participants were confronted with realistic examples of ‘surprises’ on the road, and they experienced how hard it is to perform an emergency breaking with a moving vehicle. The children were taught how to safely determine whether an approaching vehicle is moving too fast to see them, or if the driver has seen them and will be able to stop the vehicle.

At the end of the course, the children reported that they felt capable to participate more safely on the streets themselves. All the students have been nominated ‘Road Safety Ambassadors for Peers’, in order to forward their newly acquired knowledge to their friends around them.
