Publication date: 25 November 2015

Every 2 hours one person died in traffic accidents in Iran last year. In total 168,000 died from March 2014 to March 2015. Further, reports show that 60% of motorcycle accidents resulted to death.

A memorial ceremony on “The World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims” was held in Tehran on 15 November. At the event, officials and authorities from different governmental organisations, NGOs and the public, including the Minister of Roads and Urban Development, the Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare, the President of the Touring and Automobile Club of the Islamic Republic of Iran (TACI), news media and journalists participated.

The aim was to urge for a national commitment on road safety, to achieve a reduction in the number of crashes and the frequency and severity of traffic-related injuries.
