Best Road Patrol team? AA wins 2011 FIA award in Croatia

Publication date: 10 November 2011

Which European Automobile Club can repair your car in the most efficient and helpful way?  Out of ten competing Clubs, the UK Automobile Association came out on top in this year’s FIA Road Patrol Contest which was hosted by Croatian Automobile Club HAK in Kutina, Croatia on 8-10 November 2011. Contestants were tested in the key areas of breakdown repair such as mechanics, first aid, stress resistance, and customer relations.

FIA members rely on cars for their personal mobility – but on average cars also represent their second biggest household expense in terms of purchase and maintenance. When they have a problem, they expect Automobile Clubs to provide a top quality service, ensuring that their vehicle is back on the road as quickly and affordable as possible.

The task is not easy - every year FIA roadside assistance patrols answer over 10 million rescue calls. Technological innovations provide better emissions control, greater safety and more comfort, but they have made it increasingly challenging to service or repair a vehicle.

The FIA Road Patrol contest promotes training and exchange of best practices between Clubs, and in this way supports the top quality service which Clubs offer throughout the entire life cycle of a vehicle.

With FIA Automobile Clubs representing 35 million members who own approximately 20% of all passenger cars on European roads, breakdown and repair services remain the core activity of the majority of Automobile Clubs in Europe and are likely to do so for the foreseeable future.

This year's winners, Dave Freemen and Keith Miller, came from the UK Automobile Association.

Ten European Automobile Clubs competed in the contest.
