Club News: ATC UAE President takes 2nd place in Emirates National Rally Championship

Publication date: 03 March 2015

On 28 February, ACTAC Chairman and Automobile and Touring Club for United Arab Emirates (ATC UAE) President Mohammed Ben Sulayem and General Manager Ronan Morgan participated in the Emirates National Rally Championship. The two entered the 2015 Sharjah Rally, organised by the Emirates Motorsport Club (EMC) as a round of the revised UAE National Rally Championship. Driving their 20 year old Ford Escort WRC, the pair was narrowly beaten by EMC President Sheikh Abdullah Al Qassimi and ended the race in 2nd place.

Ben Sulayem competed at the invitation of Sheikh Al Qassimi, and hopes that his participation will help raise the interest in a new generation of drivers in rallying, which must now compete with karting and circuit racing for their attention. Ben Sulayem won the FIA Middle East Rally Championship 14 times as a driver, including 10 with Morgan as Co-Driver, before retiring in 2002.
