Publication date: 30 October 2012
Closer cooperation, future campaign opportunities, and in particular, proposed actions to improve road safety, were all issues under discussion as FIA Region I representatives met with the Association of Lithuanian Automobilists (LAS) on 30 October 2012.
FIA Region I representatives also held meetings with the Vice-Minister for Transport, Arunas Staras, to discuss the Lithuanian government’s ambitious plans to improve road safety in the country. In this context, one proposal discussed was the possibility to hold a joint road safety event involving the Lithuanian Transport Ministry, LAS and FIA Region I, to mark the Lithuanian Presidency of the EU in 2013.
LAS was founded in 1974 and is the largest public organisation in Lithuania engaged in the protection of the interests of motorists. LAS works in close cooperation with other Eastern European FIA Clubs, as well as playing an active role in FIA activities, of which it has been a member since 1992. LAS lists among its core goals the promotion of road safety, and improving the driving behaviour on the road. Roadside assistance, discount and benefit programs, and tourism services, are also offered by the Club for Lithuanian and foreign customers.
