Club news: ACR receives European Commission’s Excellence in Road Safety Awards 2017

Publication date: 18 July 2017

On 26 June 2017, Automobil Clubul Roman (ACR) received the Excellence in Road Safety Award 2017, granted by the European Commission at a ceremony held in Bucharest. ACR was recognised for its innovative project “Junior Co-Pilot" (Mr. Bear Driver), a project that has also been given the FIA Region I Road Safety Award. ACR was further voted by the audience as winner of the "Jacques Barrot Award", in recognition of outstanding road safety initiatives.

The European Commissioner for Transport, Violeta Bulc, could not attend the ceremony, but sent a message to the audience stating the following: "While road safety is our common goal, national and local actors are best placed to design solutions to meet national and local road safety challenges, through innovative measures, through tougher action against dangerous drivers and through better education and awareness-raising. The Excellence in Road Safety Award is a unique opportunity to reward the best practice, to recognise the hard work all of you are doing on a daily basis and to raise awareness about this great project in Europe and beyond."

The award recognises achievements in road safety that have a significant impact on saving lives on Europe's roads. It is the second one of this kind received by ACR. In 2007, ACR received the Excellence in Road Safety Award for its project “One Second for Your Life”.
