FIA Region I and ARC Europe jointly launched the Road Patrol Training for Excellence on 8 – 11 September in Croatia. The event gathered 16 road patrol teams from throughout Europe and focussed on new vehicle technologies and onsite repair for VWG, FORD and General Motors vehicles. Over the three-day period the participants learned the latest techniques and best practice for roadside assistance to help get motorists back on the road.

Jacob Bangsgaard, FIA Region I Director General, said: “After 11 years of knowledge exchange and competition, the Road Patrol Contest has become the Road Patrol Training for Excellence as FIA Region I and ARC Europe Group join forces to create a best in class training for the road patrol teams. To offer stranded motorists the best outcomes, we must constantly upgrade our skills. This is what the road patrol teams have achieved with this event.”

Stefano Sarti, ARC Europe Group Managing Director, said: “FIA Region I had a great event in the Road Patrolman Contest and ARC Europe Group saw an opportunity to improve roadside assistance throughout Europe in one easy step: by combining our expertise and knowledge on the roadside repair of specific vehicles to the skills being taught within the event. I am very pleased with the outcome of the training and I look forward to a strong continuing collaboration.”

As part of the event road patrol teams from Royal Dutch Touring Club (ANWB) and the Automobile Association (AA) UK joined as trainers for the participants. At the end of the training session teams were awarded for their performance, with ADAC Germany achieving the title Road Patrol Team of the Year, ÖAMTC Austria in second and TCB Belgium in third.

Additional activities for the participants included, an ecodriving challenge hosted by Enerfy. The AA Multi-fit spare tyre challenge, an assessment of skills with changing a tyre using The AA’s Multi-fit spare wheel. Further the technicians attempted to assemble vehicles out of spare parts.
