FIA EUROPEAN TRAFFIC EDUCATION CONTEST
16 – 19 SEPTEMBER 2011 – PARIS – FRANCE
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Every day children across the world are faced with dangers on the roads, be it on their way to school or when playing. Too many children still get injured or worse, die in traffic accidents, and we have to find a way to reduce these shocking numbers and build a safe future for the most vulnerable road users.
One way your club can contribute to this effort is by taking part in the next FIA European Traffic Education Contest that will be hosted by the Fédération Française de Cyclotourisme (FFCT) in Paris, France. The contest will take place between 16 and 19 September.
We would like to encourage clubs not to treat this event like an Olympic discipline, but as an occasion for children from different cultures to become aware of their differences and their cultural richness and at the same time acquire skills that will ensure their safety in today’s complex traffic jungle. We are sure that this event will teach children more than just traffic safety, it will also impart many social skills and give some children the opportunity to travel abroad for the first time and to discover a part of Europe’s rich cultural heritage.
Attached you will find further details as well as the draft programme, the regulations and the registration form. Please note that due to capacity limits on site, ETEC 2011 will be able to welcome only 25 club teams. Therefore, teams will be accepted on a first come first served basis. We hope your club takes up this road safety challenge and look forward to receiving your registration form.
