The European Commission must secure a consumer-friendly approach for new in-vehicle telematics systems, says new FIA Eurocouncil Declaration

A declaration calling on the European Commission to support the deployment of in-vehicle telematics systems and applications, while keeping in mind consumer interests and concerns, was today adopted by the FIA Eurocouncil, made up of the 76 FIA Automobile Clubs in Europe.

Consumers will lose out if the test cycle for passenger car emissions is not revised to take account of real world conditions, and if supercredits are used to water-down current targets, the FIA has said in a letter to European Parliament ENVI MEPs ahead of a key committee vote tomorrow. The FIA Region I office is a consumer body representing 71 Automobile Clubs and their 35 million members in Europe.

A new EU tyre labelling regulation comes into force as of 01 November 2012. The new rules aim to provide end-users of vehicles with relevant information about the quality of the estimated 115 million tyres sold in the EU every year, and to guide them towards choosing a product which is more fuel efficient, has better braking in wet conditions and is less noisy.
