Proposal for a new Battery Directive published

Publication date: 25 November 2003

The Commission today adopted a proposal (COM(2003) 723 final - 2003/0282 (COD)) for a new battery directive, creating an EU-wide framework for national battery collection and recycling schemes.  It will require the collection and recycling of all batteries placed on the EU Market and aims to place a total ban on landfill dumping and incinerating of batteries.
