Hearing on Harmonisation of Driving Rules in Europe
Publication date: 27 April 2004
In a recent study commissioned by the European Commission, at least 46 differences were identified among the most common driving rules. These include rules on speed limits, alcohol, rules on priority, use of lights during the day etc.
As EU enlargement will make things even more complicated, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) has decided to draw up an own-initiative Opinion to encourage the European Commission to draft legislation on the harmonisation of driving rules in the European Union. Prior to this, the EESC will organise a hearing to bring together as many institutional and non-institutional partners as possible. Representatives of the AIT/FIA and automobile clubs will participate.
The hearing will take place at the EESC building, 2 Rue Ravenstein, 1000 Brussels, on 17 May 2004 at 9.30 am.
