Eurostat: Car prefered mode of transport in EU-25 in 2003
Publication date: 26 September 2006
Recent figures published by Eurostat underline that the car is still the prefered mode of transport in the EU-25. In 2003, 83% of the total passenger transport was by car.
The dominance of road transport and travel is reflected by the continuous steady increase of the length of motorways which, at EU-25 level in 2003, was more than 20 % higher than in 1995. The stock of passenger cars followed the same pattern, with an increase of car fleet in most new Member States, though with still a high share of old vehicles.
The Eurostat statistics are available here.
