EU spring summit

Publication date: 17 March 2009

The economic and financial situation, energy and climate change and the Eastern Partnership are the main topics on the agenda of the spring European Council in Brussels on 19 and 20 March.

Apart from the stability of financial markets, the heads of state and government of the 27 EU countries will discuss the EU's strategy for jobs and growth - a traditional subject of any spring summit but of particular importance in the present situation. They will also prepare the EU's stance for the G20 summit to be held in London at the beginning of April.

As is customary, foreign affairs ministers met ahead of the European Council meeting to examine the draft conclusions, which were prepared by the Czech presidency.
