Council: Common Position on Seat Belts adopted

The Council adopted today their common positions on three proposals to make seat belts compulsory in all motor vehicles (including minibuses, coaches, lorries and light commercial vehicles).
The texts go now to the European Parliament for second reading.
The Common Positions adopted today relate to: - COM (2003) 361 - COD (2003) 0128, a proposal for a Directive relating to motor vehicles with regards to the seats, their ancorages and head restraints, amending Directive 74/408/EEC. Common Position - COM (2003) 362 - COD (2003) 0136, the proposal for a Directive on the approximation of the laws of the Member States relating to anchorages for motor-vehicle safety belts, amending Directive 76/115/EEC. Common Position (part 1 and part 2) - COM (2003) 363 - COD (2003) 0130, the proposal for a Directive on the approximation of the laws of the Memer States relating to safety belts and restraint systems of motor vehicles, amending Directive 77/541/EC.
