Future business strategies for African Clubs: FIA discussions held in Johannesburg

Automobile and Touring Club representatives from Botswana, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Uganda, and South Africa met today in Johannesburg to discuss club priorities for the FIA African Council of Touring & Automobile (ACTA) and possible areas for future cooperation. The clubs took the opportunity to present their current activities within the full range of membership services they offer as well as to discuss future business challenges they face.

The event was organised by AA South Africa as one of the FIA Region I activities funded by the FIA Development Fund. The Director General of FIA Region I, Jacob Bangsgaard, presented the activities of FIA Region I on safety, the environment, and tourism – areas of great importance for the African region. South Africa, Botswana and Tanzania have already signed up to participate in the FIA Region I actions being organised to support the UN Decade of Action on Road Safety, which will be launched on 11th May this year.

At the meeting in Johannesburg, the clubs also learnt about the status of the International Driving Permit and the International Custom Clearance document from Ms. Deborah Smith, Head of FIA Customs Affairs. The FIA is actively working with the clubs with regard to the servicing of these documents.
