Program
This year’s Road Safety Report HGV 2009 highlights the development of vehicle failures and accidents linked to heavy goods vehicles. DEKRA’s studies show that the frequency of accidents and the number of personal damages due to heavy goods vehicles have significantly decreased. This is essentially due to the improved vehicle safety and the training of drivers. That said, there is still room for improvements. For instance, suggestions are made regarding the greater propagation of driver assistance systems or the behaviour of drivers.
The report is not only conceived as a source of information for decision makers, experts and road users. DEKRA, the biggest organisation of independent experts in Europe, intends to provide a major contribution to the appropriate approach to the volume of the transport of goods, which is likely to further increase in the coming years. The aim of the report also consists in augmenting the road safety of heavy goods vehicles, which will allow for an improvement of their image in the public opinion.
