The African Council of Touring and Automobile Clubs (ACTA) formally became a sub-region of the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) Region I in early 2008. The African Council aims to improve the range of services provided motoring tourists and travelers in the African region.

The ACTA Learnership Programme, funded by the FIA Development Fund and coordinated by FIA Region I, kicked off on 8 April 2013 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The event, hosted by AA Tanzania, was focused on supporting the work of ACTA Clubs on insurance and tourism, key elements of the ACTA Development Plan.

Six brand new websites for African Automobile Clubs, developed over the past months with the support of a FIA Development Fund grant, were launched today by FIA Region I the coordinators of the project.

Taxes on petrol and diesel will rise by 23 cents respectively as of 1 April 2013. This is due to the fuel levy being increased by 15 cents to R 2.12 (petrol) and R1.97 on diesel, while the Road Accident Fund contribution is increased by 8 cents per litre to 96 cents. From April, the total tax, levy and various other costs included in a litre of fuel will equal R R5.42 for petrol and R 4.17 for diesel.
